Foam Back Humpy
The Foam Back Humpy is Wess's modified version of the Humpy, which was originated
by Californian Jack Horner. Wess has simplified this otherwise difficult
fly by using foam for the shellback, and antron for the wings. These improvements
also make this fly more bouyant and visible. This is a great pocket water
dry fly which is ideal for local streams like the Tuolumne and Stanislaus. To
boot, it offers the floatation neccesary for hopper and dropper style fishing.
As mentioned in the recipe, this fly can be dubbed in many different "attractor"
colors, but Wess's favorite for the Tuolumne is burnt orange.
